Dreams Too Big To Fail
Chapter One: Some Dreams Are Too Big To Fail
Once upon a millennium, I wanted to put Al Pacino, Colin
Powell, Judge Sonia Sotomayor and others from The South Bronx on police
line-ups mounted on highway in black and white billboards for a picture perfect
Kodak moment of The American Spirit captured in an ad for a ballgame at Yankee
Stadium. It was for a school assignment to create a tour book to draw
sightseers from around the world to The South Bronx.
In this essay of images, I use a painting of words to become
one of the 8 million stories in The Naked City. This is me taking my place on a
line up to get Mission: Impossible done.
Due to head injuries in a hate attack at school that caused
me to stopped breathing, a tour de force never happened except I still have a
dream for The City That Never Sleeps.
This is a journal for future historians that need to know
the 21 Century.
I went from carrying Anne Frank pass the shadows of bullies
and burnt out buildings in my childhood to carrying a borrowed Android that
enabled me to take pictures of my town as I walked miles in a heat wave to
prevent my mother from being forced into homelessness by a new landlord who
wanted to raise rent in the thousands of dollars.
I believe you will write in the future the next great
American novel, I remembered being told by Mrs. Raesade, my 6th
grade English teacher. Just write what you know.
Some dreams are too big to fail.
